Everyone wants good PR. It's such a good way to raise your visibility and get in front of a bigger audience.

 

When some clients I’ve spoken to are scaling, they sometimes say they’re stuck and can’t get any bigger. It’s usually because they haven’t previously done the brand awareness and top of funnel marketing activity. 

 

It’s so critical that we focus on more than one marketing channel e.g. not just doing Facebook ads and putting all our eggs in one basket.

Are you loving Clubhouse as much as me?

You’ve probably already heard of it because let’s face it, Clubhouse is the talk of the town right now.

If so, do you love it as much as I do?

For those who aren’t familiar Clubhouse is a brand new (invite only) social networking app developed in Silicon Valley that uses audio-chat to connect its users through conversation in various different ‘rooms’.

The Guardian recently described it as "part talkback radio, part conference call, part Houseparty" and it’s a pretty good way to define it. It’s a bit like tuning into a live podcast but with your chance to chip in.

I’ve been absolutely loving it; I’m calling it my new guilty pleasure!

Strategy before tactics and why that really matters

I love Mark Ritson's amazing columns in Marketing Week – a great read for any of you who are serious about marketing and growing your business successfully. In his latest article he breaks down strategy into simple steps:

 Diagnosis (I call it audit but it amounts to the same thing)

 Strategy – what you will not do

 Strategy before tactics – only deciding which tactical levers to use (e.g. Facebook ads, podcast, etc.) once you’re clear on your strategy

I met Mark 'virtually' when I did his Mini MBA in Marketing last year. Having worked in marketing/digital/media for 20 years I've spent my time on the ground doing the work scaling businesses. It's February - I can't believe January has flown by in a midst of home-schooling, snow, words of the year (mine is Courage) and goal setting. I've seen my first daffodil - Spring is coming.

Talking of goals I have to mention my sister, Kiko, who decided a couple of years ago that she was going to row The Atlantic and break the world record!! Rather a concern given that she had never been in a rowing boat before she made this announcement to her family.

And guess what - she did. And what is even more amazing is that she had life-saving surgery for a pituitary tumour just months before. She told the consultant that they had better get operating pronto as she was NOT going to let that stop her achieve her goal.

We all thought she was crazy to take on such a feat with so little practice. But her mindset was incredible and she smashed her goals, broke the world record and raised £100K for the hospital that saved her life just...

I’ve got a confession to make...

There was a point where I just really didn’t get the fuss about LinkedIn.

It seemed a bit too ‘corporate’ for me. And let’s be honest, most people were just using it as somewhere to host their CV online.

But it’s in my nature to try and solve problems.

So a while back, I decided to take it seriously, dive in, and deploy the same strategies I’d used in other parts of my life and businesses.

Now I LOVE LinkedIn, and you should too.

First of all, the numbers speak for themselves.

  • The platform now boasts a whopping 500million users - 250million of whom are active every single month.
  • It’s hands down the #1 channel for B2B marketers, with 80% of B2B leads that originate from social media, coming from LinkedIn.

This doesn’t mean you should rule it out if you’re serving B2C. With that user volume, you can still get incredible results if you’ve got an interesting offering.
